"1932 Plymouth PB Sport Roadster
""The 1932 Plymouth Model PB stands as a testament to the ingenuity and ambition of its era. Born from the fervent competition of the early automotive industry, this classic car emerged from the Chrysler Corporation's Plymouth division, ready to set new standards in value and performance. At a time when the Great Depression loomed over America, the Model PB offered a glimmer of innovation and hope. Notably, it was the last Plymouth built with a four cylinder engine before the company transitioned to six cylinder powerplants, marking an end of an era in its lineage."" Thxmetrommp.com
For consignment, a 1932 Plymouth PB sport roadster showing 89 miles, but the true miles are unknown. Prior to our consignor's acquisition of the car in 2020, it had been fully restored but stored improperly, resulting in damage to the new paint job. Our consignor got the mechanicals sorted but freely admits, she'll need paint.
Exterior
Dark Maroon over black fenders and running board makes for a stately presentation but even from 20 feet, you can tell something is amiss. That said, the body is straight, the panel gaps are not bad, and the metalwork is very nice. Ivory colored 18-inch wire wheels offer some contrast to the dark body and includes two spare wheels, each mounted on the front fender of each side. Ambler fog lights make quite a dramatic statement up front while the tan canvas top, while showing water stains, is intact and holds a glass window. The grille is black and its shell is chrome and features a winged lady ornament over the Plymouth badge that includes the Mayflower. The paint is checked and chipping throughout the vehicle and there's a sizable slash in the black paint of a fender.
Interior
Saddle brown vinyl is an attractive hue first utilized on the door panels with simple end to end coverage, leading to the column tufted bench seat in matching grain vinyl. And for a fully coordinated set, the rumble seatis also covered in saddle and all are in nice shape. A matte black three spoke steering wheel fronts a black painted dash panel putting out a nice shine and adorned with a spun aluminum faceplate with cutouts for the five gauges. Down below, the footwells are lined with saddle vinyl and the floor is covered with a textured rubber mat around the shifter, handbrake, and rectangular pedals.
Drivetrain
Behind the engine covers is a 196ci L head 4 cylinder presenting in mostly original condition and in clean driver quality with a touch of soot and surface rust. It's fueled by a 1-barrel carburetor and rated at 65 horsepower, set into motion by a 3-speed manual transmission which sends power to the rear axle and 4.33 gears. Drum brakes are employed on front and rear wheels and these were replaced by the consignor within the past five years. There's also a new radiator and fuel system.
Undercarriage
Super clean underneath with minimal surface rust and a drop or two of oil about. The single exhaust is newer, and includes a stock style muffler. Leaf springs make up the suspension front and back.
Drive-Ability
Thoughts of paint conditions quickly dissipate when you get behind the wheel, surrounded by warm saddle vinyl and an efficient and clean control panel. The 4 popper comes to life with the right mix of throttle and spark and this well sorted PB delivers a fine ride in true vintage fashion and stops on a dime. No complaints here as all functions, limited in number as they may be, all operate as needed. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
If you think sex appeal in advertising is something that came out of the 60's, take a look at the newspaper ad for the 1932 Plymouth. ""Plymouth is in the spotlight, because America looked at all three."". A topless Plymouth is featured with three women, in period bathing suits, looking towards the ocean with one waving to a friend. The phrase ""in times like these"" is used in the ad, representing a difficult time. But sun's up, top's down as depicted in the ad implied hope and happier times ahead, just as they are for you as you bring home this fine vintage car.
