For consignment, a custom 1939 Mercury roadster pickup truck showing 10,130 miles, but the true mileage is unknown. This ride is built on a 1985 Chevy S10 chassis and along with the 2.8 liter engine, enjoys power steering, power brakes, and overdrive. Wild flames, pinstriping and graphics are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to customization.�
Exterior
Where to begin on this wild ride? Flat black paint serves as the backdrop for lots of white flames, outlined in red, and accompanied by red pinstripe flourishes, spider web graphics, and some wording on the tailgate which hints at the S10 roots of the truck. Up front, teardrop headlights flank the prominent high hood rounding up to the two part windshield that meets a white accessory hardtop. 15-inch chrome steel wheels are hot rod for sure and wrapped in wide white walls while vertical dual tips dress up the exhaust terminus. The bed cover is a stained wood piece with jigsaw drawn flames and a wood surfboard for extra coolness. Cowl lights in chrome buckets brighten up the sides just in front of some streamlined sport side mirrors. Imperfections include bubbling down low and several areas of some rough filler.
Interior
Our consigner tells us Rehab Rods did the interior with new Zodiac vinyl and it starts on the door panels with varying ribbed patterns of red vinyl intersected by sparkling white vinyl vertical stripes and the pattern and this material is echoed on the front bench seat where black piping delineates the panels. Zodiac red vinyl also wraps the steering wheel with three sport spokes leading to a basic dashboard that repeat the exterior palette of flat black paint and red and white pinstriping. A black textured floor covering also drapes over the central hump and up above, the headliner is adorned with red and white Zodiac padded vinyl while a surfboard shaped rear view mirror hangs from the window frame.��
Drivetrain
Under the vintage hood is a driver quality 2.8 liter V6, fueled by a 2-barrel carburetor and backed by a 700R4 4-speed automatic transmission routing power to the 10 bolt rear axle. Power brakes are on board with discs in front and drums in rear.��
Undercarriage
Driver quality underneath as well with surface rust present as well as some oil on the pans and flywheel cover and the rear differential. Dual exhaust flows through glasspack style mufflers on their way to chrome tips via clean pipes out back. Suspension is standard S10 with coil springs up front and leaf springs in the back.
Drive-Ability
In the words of Monty Python, and now for something completely different. We've had thousands of cars come through our Hallowed Halls, but this custom is one of one and unlike anything we've seen. But we're not unfamiliar with S10's and that's essentially what this is with all the ride quality and power a 2.8 can muster, which is more than adequate for cruising this novel instrument of creativity. We note only the brake lights not working but all other functions afforded this unique ride operate as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.�
Part pre-war, part 80's GM, all fun! The bright and vintage interior is a great counter to the flat black flamed hot rod on the outside and the wood treatment out back is a show stopper!
