"1950 Dodge Pickup
""You'll like the way the Dodge ""Job Rated"" pick ups cut your hauling costs. That's because they're ""Job Rated,"" from engine to rear axle, to give maximum performance at lower cost. Safety and comfort are outstanding features. They're not only sized for big loads, they're easy to load too. Combining handsome appearance with practical utility, you'll find these pick ups the most economical, dependable, and longest lasting that your money can buy!"" From the 1950 Dodge Truck brochure
For consignment, a 1950 Dodge pickup with a title verified 46,851 actual miles, family owned for over 35 years and now packing a 350ci Chevrolet V8 with aluminum heads. We get our share of classic Chevy and Ford trucks, so the occasional Dodge B-series is a welcome addition to our vast inventory.
Exterior
The Dark Red paint is the perfect background for the gray painted grille and bumper up front while chrome headlight rings and the hood ornament, an epic, stylized ram in a bullet-like charge, both shine bright up front. In profile, its unique configuration is almost a blend of two different trucks with a round ""pilot house"" cab and a bed full of right angles and embossed side panels that create visual interest as well as strength. The front's fenders are flat topped giving the truck a distinct look amongst trucks of the era while 15-inch American Racing Torque Thrust wheels, black with silver lips, bring the truck into the modern era with staggered size tires and a slightly raked stance. There are five windows in the cab but robust columns between them and in the bed, patina presents in the planks. The metal work and paint are generally good with imperfections that include touches up chips and scratches and a few untouched scratches.
Interior
Door cards are roughly formed from padded saddle vinyl held in place with screws and framed by body colored paint. The bench seat wears the same material with tan piping and looks to be in good shape with some minor compression. A three spoke steering wheel shares its column with a Super Pro tachometer and the clean red dash has a vintage speedometer along with a trio of condition gauges in front of a Lokar shifter that rises from the floor. Rubber mats cover the floor nicely while various panels and trim cover the ceiling and side walls.
Drivetrain
Lots of red accenting is found on the engine, a 350ci V8 our consignor states was rebuilt and mated with a set of Flotek 180cc aluminum heads and an Edelbrock 600cfm4-barrel carburetor. For the transfer of power we have a 700R4 4-speed transmission sending power to the 10 bolt axle with 3.08 gears. Headers begin the exhale process just below the Edelbrock valve covers painted red between the ribs. Power brakes are accounted for and are present as front discs and rear drums.
Undercarriage
Clean underneath with minimal surface rust and just a drop of oil on the pan. The dual exhaust flows in tandem with FlowMaster mufflers, then go opposite directions to eventually exit on each side of the bottom mounted spare tire. Coil spring suspension is up front and leaf springs in the rear.
Drive-Ability
We step up on the attractive black running board and into the handsome cabin of the uncommon truck and after a prime of the pump, crank the 350 to life and pause to take in the healthy exhaust tones expelled out back. From there, it was a shift into Drive and onto the test loop where the truck provides a smooth, car-like ride with a well lit cabin and plenty of power underfoot. It's fairly bare bones and the limited functional items present all work as they should and that includes lights, brakes, and gauges. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
This is a great looking and well sorted truck of which you simply don't see many. If you're an ""outside the box"" thinker, think about this Dodge for your collection or as your new show vehicle. We're kind of digging the fact that the bed is not pristine and maybe we take this truck on a few chore runs, picking up lumber and other bed friendly items. It's a standout in a sea of F100's and 3100's and Mopar guys are already thinking about dialing our number! But don't let that stop you!
