Gateway Classic Cars Houston Showroom is excited to offer this rare L89 1968 Chevrolet Corvette, presented in the stunning LeMans Blue exterior color. Regular Production Option (RPO) L89 first became available with the 1967 Corvette. What made it special is that it added the competition heads from the all-aluminum L88 427, along with an aluminum intake topped by three 2-barrel carbs on the base L71 427 CID V8. The result was a very potent 435HP/460TQ (SAE NET) rating from the factory. Only 624 of the 1968 Corvette production were equipped with the rare factory aluminum head L89 RPO code option. In total, only about 1030 Corvettes were built with the L89 option code, which was only offered from 1967-1969, so they are quite hard to find. This classic muscle car reportedly has some notable originality - with the numbers on the engine block stamp pad corresponding to the VIN, along with the stamping on the transmission and properly coded rear end (note that we dont have a lift to verify the last two elements, but are reporting information provided to us, as well as can be found by searching on its VIN). This sleek Corvette absolutely embodies the spirit of the 1960s with its bold design and powerful performance capabilities. Under the hood lies the legendary L89 427 CID V8 engine, promising an exhilarating driving experience that is effortlessly managed through the Muncie 4-Speed manual transmission, which gets all that grunt to the 3.70:1 Posi-equipped rear end. If you arent careful, youll go through a lot of rear tires. Then again, thats half the fun of having one of these manual transmission big block Corvettes (well, for some of us)!Slip inside to discover a cabin that nicely complements the striking exterior. The black interior is designed with synthetic leather seating that balances comfort and heritage. Modern conveniences, such as power windows and power steering, enhance the driving experience while maintaining an authentic feel. The inclusion of 4-wheel power disc brakes underscores the focus on drivability and control, making every journey smooth and enjoyable. As for entertainment, the AM/FM radio provides a nod to period-correct audio while ensuring you have access to your favorite tunes. The exterior boasts hub caps and the classic redline bias ply tires, emphasizing the timeless aesthetic appeal of this Corvette. Safety features like seatbelts are thoughtfully included, rounding out the driving experience with practicality. The distinctive T-tops provide an open-air driving experience that lets you enjoy the thrill of the road to its fullest.
