2023 U.S. Truck Sales

2023 Truck Sales

Examining the Q1 & Q2 2023 sales data for full-size pickup trucks in the United States reveals intriguing trends. Notable growth has been observed in the Ford F-Series, Chevy, GMC, and Toyota compared to the previous year, while Ram and Nissan have experienced declines. Allow me to provide you with a comprehensive overview of these developments.

Ford’s newly introduced 2023 Super Duty model has contributed to the increase in F-Series sales during the first half of the year. These robust sales figures have propelled the total annual sales numbers of Ford’s renowned F-Series trucks, inching closer to the impressive 1 million mark. The possibility of reaching this milestone again remains uncertain, but only time will unveil the outcome.

Chevrolet Silverado sales display a modest improvement overall. While Silverado 1500 sales have shown considerable strength in recent months, the sales for Silverado HD have experienced a slight dip. In contrast, GMC Sierra has boasted a commendable sales performance, witnessing a significant 20.2% growth compared to the previous year. This achievement can be primarily attributed to the popularity of the light-duty Sierra 1500 trucks. It is evident that U.S. consumers gravitate towards the more premium GMC pickups, including the upscale Denali and AT4/AT4X lineups. Similarly, the Toyota Tundra has continued to gain traction, with monthly sales averaging around 10,000 units.

On the other hand, Ram’s truck sales have encountered a setback, declining by -9% in the first half of 2023 compared to the same period in 2022. Perceptions of Ram’s current 1500 and HD lineup as aging may have influenced this decline. While Ram trucks remain highly competitive, it is advantageous to introduce new products to the market, a strategy employed by General Motors, Ford, Nissan, and Toyota, who have all launched significantly refreshed or entirely new pickup truck models since 2020. Ram’s incorporation of measured technological updates has undoubtedly played a role in their competitiveness.

Contrary to initial expectations, Hummer EV sales have not reached anticipated levels, with only 49 units sold by GMC in the last six months. These figures suggest that further efforts may be required to spur consumer interest in this electric vehicle offering.
